Acknowledgement of Country
St. Patrick's School acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, the Koroitch-gundidj people of the Maar Nation. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
Catholic Education Week
Loving God,
Open our hearts,
So that we may feel the breath and play of your spirit.
Unclench our hands
So that we may reach out to one another,
And touch and be healed.
Open our lips
That we may drink in the delight and wonder of life.
Unclog our ears
To hear your agony in our inhumanity.
Open our eyes,
So that we may see Christ in friend and stranger.
Breathe your Spirit into us,
And touch our lives with the life of Christ.
Amen
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to this week’s newsletter.
Catholic Education Week
This week we celebrated Catholic Education Week. Our students completed various activities in class to celebrate the week and we also held our Learn and Explore morning at school today. The morning was a fantastic way for our school to open our doors to the wider Koroit and District community to experience and see learning in action at St Pat’s.
National Sorry Day
Every year on 26 May, National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’.
National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it is also commemorated by Australians right around the country.
This year our Yr F-3 students contributed to a commemorative display of hand-crafted purple flowers, to acknowledge and show our solidarity to the Stolen Generations on National Sorry Day. The ‘Sea of Purple Flowers’ this year will be installed at the Warrnambool Library and will be on display from 26th May and right throughout Reconciliation Week, 27th May – 3rd June.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Congratulations to the students who have been working towards celebrating the sacrament of Confirmation over the last few weeks. These children embark on a special faith journey to strengthen their baptismal commitment and begin to open their hearts to encounter the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The candidates have completed a series of modules, learning about belonging to the Catholic Faith and being called to the Holy Spirit. Thank you to the parents of these children for your commitment to your child’s faith journey. We wish you all the very best as you begin this special time in your lives. The sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated at this Sunday's Mass 28th May at 9am at Infant Jesus, Koroit. All are welcome to attend.
Kind regards,
Nick Murrell
