Acknowledgement of Country
St. Patrick's School acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, the Koroitch-gundidj people of the Maar Nation. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
Principal's Message
Dear parents and carers,
Father’s Day Breakfast
This morning, I think, has to be some sort of record, with our volunteer parent group feeding so many people off one 9kg gas bottle! The Father’s / Special Person’s breakfast was a very well attended morning and a great chance for our students to spend time with a special person having their breakfast. Thanks to Mel Lilley for her coordination of the event and all those who helped cook, prepare and serve the food and coffees throughout the morning in very difficult circumstances without power. See photos from the morning below.
DOBCEL Board Meeting
This week, we hosted the DOBCEL Board at our school, on Tuesday and Wednesday. While they were with us, they toured our school with the school leaders, met students and held their meetings. Thank you to Tammy Langdon, Ash Porter and Bronie for organising the catering for our special guests, they were very humbled by the St Pat’s hospitality.
School Uniform
Transition to Directwear
Our transition to Directwear, as our uniform supplier, is going well. Uniform is available to order via the Directwear website. The purpose of transitioning to Directwear is to ensure readily available uniform, quality garments and less administrative burden on the school. The transition process means that we have had to slightly change the style of some of the uniform items, namely the school jumper. The current school jumper is not available/stocked in Australian warehouses and is indented from overseas. This creates a number of issues. New jumpers ordered through Directwear will be the same style of jumper, however, they are a windcheater style fabric as opposed to the shiny fabric we are used to. Both the older and the new style jumper are able to be worn at school. I thank the School Advisory Council for their support with the decisions that needed to be made to ensure our uniform supply is consistent, cost effective and of good quality.
$10 Uniform Sale (school stock)
We are running a $10.00 Uniform Sale through CDF Pay. All uniform items are on sale for $10.00, excluding School Bags, Hats and Sports Polos. Sale ends Friday 15th September.
Swimming Program
If you have not returned your child/ren’s paper form regarding swimming capabilities, can you please do this ASAP. We need to get this information to Belfast Aquatics. Starting next term, our students will be taking swimming lessons at Belfast Aquatics. The school swimming program starts on Thursday 5th October 2023 and runs for 8 weeks until Thursday November 30th. With the exclusion of Thursday Nov 2nd due to F-2 extended day, Yr 2 sleepover and Yr 5 Emmanuel Experience.
Year 5/6 Camp
We wish our Yr 5/6 students all the best as they embark on their school camp on Monday morning. This will be an amazing experience for our students as they will be visiting Bounce, Artvo, Melbourne Zoo at night!, Go Climb, The Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne Museum, Eureka Skydeck and the Australian Sports Museum. We thank our parent helpers, Sally Lumsden, Jess Beyer and Andrew Foster who are coming along to support the camp.
Junior Shade Sail
You will have noticed we lost the shade sail covering the junior playground in the strong winds last night. From experience the repair/replacement process will be a time consuming one, please be prepared for an extended period of time without the shade sail. I thank parents Nathan Balcombe and Rhyce Milward for their help on Friday morning to make the area safe.
Enjoy a great weekend,
Nick Murrell

End of Year Arrangements 2023
Please see below a letter from the Warrnambool and District Catholic Schools Network regarding changes to end of year dates and the reasoning behind this change.
School Fees
Each year our school receives approximately 85% of funding toward the overall cost of running our school for the year from the Federal and State Governments. Consequently, our school community is required to raise the remaining 15% each year to provide the tuition, programs and resources our children need to ensure the best education. This 15% is raised through School Fees, Student Levies, donations and fundraising.
Currently, for this period in time, we have a substantial amount of outstanding school fees, we understand that there is still half of the school year to go, however, if you could give this some thought it would be appreciated. If you have any outstanding school fees it would be appreciated if you could attend to these in the near future. If you have any questions please contact Bronie or Nick and be assured of respect and total confidentiality. No child will be restricted in accessing a quality Catholic Education at St Patrick’s because of prohibitive school fees.
Concussion
If your child has experienced concussion, it is important that you follow recommended medical advice. Returning to school can be a graduated approach with the aim of increasing tolerance to a full day, the same situation could occur with sport. It is always important to check with your doctor and seek medical treatment after a child sustains a concussion.
It is important to inform the school if your child has sustained a concussion outside of the school setting so we can monitor for ongoing symptoms and adapt activities if required.
This factsheet link below from the Royal Children’s Hospital is valuable to read and understand.

There is also a great evidence-based app from the Murdoch children’s research institute that walks you through what to do in the result of a concussion.
