2021, Term 1, Week 9 Newsletter
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Masquerade Party
Our Masquerade Party on Wednesday was an amazing display of the artistic ability and culture that exists in our school and the wider community. The event was an great showcase of the Arts program at St Pat’s and the learning that has taken place in Term 1. To begin the event and Welcome us to Country, Lochie and Sam Eccles conducted an incredibly powerful and humbling ceremony. Lochie spoke of this connection to Koroit, our church and of his ancestors who occupied the land on which our school and Church sit today. We thank Lochie and Sam for this moving welcome. The event was officially opened by past student and artist Lucy May (McLaren). Lucy spoke of her fond memories of St Pats, her love of art and her current projects and achievements. It was a beautiful touch to have someone from our school open the event, thank you Lucy. I congratulate the students for their performances on the night. They were great reflections of the cultures and artistic foci that were represented. It takes a great deal of courage to perform in from of a gathering and all students faced this challenge ‘head-on’. Congratulations and well done. The winners of the People’s Choice, for most creative mask designs, as voted by our parents, carers and special visitors are:
Room 3: Ada Leishman and Lydia Andriessen
Room 4: Lila Stephenson and Ava Monnier
Room 5: Esther Gleeson and Phoenix Lane
Room 7: Tessa Byrne and Grace McMahon
Hall: Ellie O’Connell and Kaitlyn Brown
Finally, a great deal of thanks goes to Mrs Anna Schlooz for being the spark for and the driver of this event. Anna contributed a vast number of hours both at school and outside of school hours to ensure this event went from idea to reality. Mrs Schlooz, on behalf of our school community we extend our most grateful thanks. The vision that you showed, created an environment that has allowed our students to gain so much.
Easter Liturgy/Last Day of Term
Next Thursday, April 1st is Holy Thursday and the last day of Term 1. To celebrate Easter we are having an Easter Liturgy at the Church beginning at 12 pm. The liturgy will be followed by some of our regular assembly items such as awards, birthdays and messages. All are welcome to join our liturgy. School will conclude at 2.30 pm on this day.
Moyne Athletics
On Wednesday we had 29 students from St Pat’s compete in the Moyne Athletics Sports Day. It was a wet day and out St Pat’s competitors did an amazing job representing our school in tough conditions. Students competed with fairness, pride and tenacity. Many of our students have qualified for individual events at the next level of competition including our age 12/13 girls relay team. Congratulations to all who represented our school.
SWPBS
Is this week’s newsletter, I have included how we are Respectful, Responsible and Safe in our Church. Our students have been practising this each week at Friday assemblies and it has been very impressive to see how responsive our students have been to these expectations. You will also see a picture below of some Room 3 students who made the top of the ladder 5 times this week! Congratulations team!
Thank you, enjoy a safe weekend.
Kind regards,
Nick Murrell

Can You Help?
If you have been for a wander around the school this week you may have noticed that we have some new residents in the chook house. A lovely rooster called Jeff and his three as yet unnamed lady companions are settling in nicely. Some work is underway at the moment to make their home a little more comfortable and it shouldn’t be too long until we see some eggs being produced.
With pets comes responsibilities and we are looking for volunteers to drop in over the coming holidays to feed and water the chook family. If you and your child or children would like to help out, could you please let one of the teaching staff know as soon as possible.
School Photos 2021
As a school, we are in the process of confirming our school photo provider for 2021 and into the future. For many years our service provider has been MSP Photography's Frank Monger, however, last year we engaged with local photographer Glen Watson of Watson Photography, who was able to carry out our school photos on short notice due to COVID restrictions. I am seeking feedback from any interested parents or carers regarding the service and quality from both providers before we lock in our 2021 school photos. Please call Nick at school or email principal@spkoroit.catholic.edu.au with any feedback you may have. Thank you.
