2021, Term 2, Week 7 Newsletter
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to thank all students, parents, carers and staff for transitioning into remote and flexible learning as of Friday last week. Lockdowns are a challenging time for all of us and the way our school made this transition was appreciated by everyone here at St Pat’s. In this most recent lockdown and remote learning period, and all previous, I have been extremely proud of the resilience, collaboration and community spirit that has been shown by the St Pat’s community. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful, caring and school. Thank you. It is great news that we have seen a relaxing of restrictions for regional Victoria, however, there remains a number of restrictions in place that affect the daily operations of our school. Please read on to see what impact these have on our school.
Updated School Operations
Please see below for some important updates regarding our required school operations. The restrictions are in place as of today and we will advise when any changes are made available to us.
Limited access to school (Parents/Carers/Visitors)
- We are currently limited to essential visitors only on our school site.
- Parents and carers, we ask you to drop off and pick up your children from the school gates.
- If you have something important to see the school about please report to the school office area only and please wear a mask and hand sanitise when on the school premises.
Assemblies
- Are restricted to students and staff only, no parents/carers/visitors
Excursions and Interschool sports
- Not to take place at this time.
Hygiene
- Students are, as always, being encouraged to practise good hand hygiene at important parts throughout the day. This includes washing their hands using soap and water and using hand sanitizer when this is not possible.
As with 2020, these restrictions are changing regularly. We will continue to keep you updated when changes are made in this space.
Kind regards,
Nick Murrell
Principal
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday to Hudson Smits who is celebrating a birthday at this time.
Parent Teacher Interviews and Reports
Parent Teacher Interviews and Reports
At the end of this term you will receive a written report on your child’s progress in the first semester of 2021. In the past St Pat’s has held Parent Teacher Interviews around this time to complement the written report. It has been decided that Parent Teacher Interviews will not happen at this time. Instead, we are preparing to conduct 3 Way Conferences with Students, Teachers and Parents in Term 3. This change from traditional parent teacher interviews is in response to discussions at a staff level and Community Conversation feedback. 3 way Conferences involve children sharing samples of work (student and teacher chosen). These can be from their portfolios/work books or online. These conferences involve the student, teacher and parent. The students, under teacher supervision, are responsible for leading the conference and sharing their educational journey with their parents and teacher.
School Photos
School Photos have been scheduled for Thursday July 29th, this is week 3 of term 3. In response to feedback from parents and carers Glen Watson Photography will be the provider of the service. There will be further information regarding school photos in the coming weeks.
School Supervision
We have noticed a number of students getting to school prior to school supervision commencing. Our school supervision hours are 8.30am - 3.40pm. Parents and carers please be aware that if your child/ren are getting to school prior to 8.30am that there is no active supervision prior to this time. Supervision concludes at 3.40pm, if children are still on the school site at this time we contact parents/carers/emergency contacts via phone to arrange collection of your child/ren.

Warrnambool and Moyne Youth Awards
Warrnambool and Moyne Youth Awards – Nomination Period Extended
We know there are many bright shining stars in the Hawkesdale school and broader community. Some stand out due to their natural talent, others to the effort and commitment they put into their studies/hobbies/areas of interest, others due to the resilience they draw on despite facing challenges in their lives. To ensure these young people can be recognised and celebrated we have decided to extend the nomination period for the Youth Awards. Nominations will now close on Friday 18th June.
Nominations can be made by; Teachers, Employers, Parents, Peers, Friends, Relatives, Coaches and other community members and are open to people aged from 12-25 who have demonstrated resilience, cooperation, kindness, responsibility, and passion.
